History of the UEB

VNU University of Economics and Business (VNU-UEB), a member of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), was established in accordance with Decision No. 290/QD-TTg signed by the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on 6th March 2007. Originating from the Faculty of Political Economy, University of Hanoi, UEB has undergone several historical transformation periods.


Important historical milestones:

  • November 1974: Political Economy Faculty - University of Hanoi.
  • September 1995: Faculty of Economics - University of Social Science and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
  • July 1999: Faculty of Economics - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
  • March 2007: University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

During its development process, VNU-UEB has made constant efforts to improve the quality of training, scientific research and other services in order to become a research-oriented university and excel at training high-quality human resource in fields of economics, management and business administration. UEB has been known as a young and dynamic university with a strategic vision and strong determination towards international standards. The University’s position and prestige have been gradually strengthened. UEB has initially achieved several successes in training and research creating a solid foundation for further development towards efficiency and quality.

Regarding to training activities:

UEB has standardized existing courses, opened new programs and strengthened the quality of honors training programs as well as other postgraduate and international joint programs. Currently, VNU-UEB is offering 8 majors for bachelor programs, 11 majors for master programs and 5 majors for PhD programs; in which 1 bachelor and 2 master programs are affiliated with foreign institutions. UEB has constantly improved training quality and conducted assessment on 2 programs in accordance with ASEAN University Network's criteria. 2 undergraduate programs have also been assessed based on the standards of Education & Training Ministry. Total enrollment has expanded since 2016. The employment rate of bachelor graduate is above 96.7%.

Regarding to scientific research:

UEB has continuously reaffirmed its leading position in scientific research. Results of UEB's research have positively contributed to the development of economics science reflected by many published papers on prestigious journals. Additionally, with the orientation of scientific research in line with practice, many projects with high applicability implemented by UEB have been transferred to governmental agencies, localities and businesses.

Scientific research activities at UEB are developed in two main directions: (i) research for improving training quality; (ii) research for policy and business consultancy which concentrates on 3 areas: macroeconomic; sustainable development; industries, sectors and businesses development.

UEB has been jointly carrying out research projects with the participation of leading experts in different fields. Thanks for international research networks, UEB has been able to create a rewarding academic environment, helping Vietnamese researchers actively exchange knowledge with their colleagues. Simultaneously, UEB has attracted many international scholars to take part in seminars, exchange knowledge or even work here.

 

 

UEB is considered and chosen as a destination for young knowledge, reflected in the fact that the University has repeatedly organized convening and conferences of regional and global stature like the YSI Asia Convening 2019 (held from 12 to 15 August, 2019) gathered nearly 500 scientists from 38 countries in the world to attend.

Next is Global Partnership of Asian Colleges (GPAC) (held from 26 to 31 August, 2019) with the participation of nearly 200 students and lecturers from 7 Asian universities.

 

Regarding to international cooperation:

UEB has built a system of nearly 50 domestic strategic partners providing scholarships or internships for students; conducting short-term training and consulting services for businesses. In addition, UEB has established cooperative relationships with  more than 30 universities and research institutes in 13 countries in terms of student and lecturer exchange, training and research cooperation.

With the strategy of internationalizing education, UEB has been promoting international exchange in the field of training and research in order to become regional and global hub of knowledge. Recently, students of UEB have had the opportunity to interact with international peers and scholars in short-term training courses, joint programs or international conferences and seminars. Through these activities, UEB expects to innovate teaching methods and enhance international cooperation so as to keep pace with new trends and challenges in the context of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 to create the best learning environment for students.

With all achievements during 45 years of development, UEB was awarded the Third-class Labor Medal (1997) and Second-class Labor Medal (2004) by the government. UEB has also received many certificates of merit and other awards from the Ministry of Education & Training and from VNU.
