Opening ceremony of MPPM program intake 4

The opening ceremony of Master of Public Policy Management program jointly training by Uppsala University and University of Economics and Business - VNU, intake 4 has been solemnly held on 28th February 2011.


It was an honor to receive to the ceremony Madam Maeve Collins - Ambassador of Ireland in Vietnam, Deputy Minister Ha Hung - Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Affairs; Assoc.Prof.PhD. Phung Xuan Nha - Alternate Member of the Central Party Committee, VNU Vice President; Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son - UEB Rector and representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training, Executive Board of 165 Project, Committee for Ethnic Affairs, University of Uppsala, the SIPU and 65 new graduates of the program. From Uppsala University - Sweden, Vice Rector - Prof. Margaretha Fahlgren and Mr. Delef Clowe - Director of the Education Committee has directly witness the ceremony via video conference system.

In his opening speech, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son - UEB Rector has emphasized the significance of the MPPM program, which is one of the priority international cooperative programs of the university. Especially, intake 2 of the program was assigned the training within the Government’s project 165. For the forth enrollment, the university was also honored to become partner of the Committee for Ethnic Affairs and the Embassy of Ireland within the project “Improving the planning and implementing of poverty reduction policies for the ethnic minority and mountainous areas.” It has affirmed the position and prestige as well as important tasks of the university in the developing management human resources at the national and local levels.

Emphasizing the significance and objectives of the project, Mr. Ha Hung - Vice Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Affairs has shared that the joint training program is to meet the requirement of methodical training, a systematic of knowledge on social development and poverty reduction, which combines both theory and practical skills of ethnic policy officers.

At the ceremony, representatives of VNU, the Embassy of Ireland and Uppsala University have congratulated the new students, expressed their confidence in the program’s quality as well as the expectation for students’ stable effort in study and career.
Witnessing the ceremony via video conference system from Sweden, representatives from the Uppsala University has congratulated the new students, sent their confidence and important missions to future leaders.


Ms. Maeve Collins - Irish Ambassador believes that under the support of the Government, the program will contribute to common goal of poverty and hunger reduction, especially in Vietnam’s ethnic areas.

In the name of VNU Vice President and UEB Former Rector, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Phung Xuan Nha expressed his cheer with the increasing prestige of the program.

“Improving the planning and implementing of poverty reduction policies for the ethnic minority and mountainous areas” is a project funded by the Irish Aid under the common goal of enhancing effectiveness of the policy planning and management, thereby contributing to overall poverty reduction in Vietnam, reducing the disparity of living conditions among ethnic and plains. MPPM joint training program between University of Economics and Business - VNU and Uppsala University is within the strategic task.
