Training course on capacity of economic diplomacy for Ministry of Foreign Affairs by VEPR

From 6th to 10th September, 2010, VEPR and Ministry of Foreign Affairs successfully held an advanced training course on "Special Topics in Economics for Diplomacy" at V-Resort, Hoa Binh.


The course was held within the project "Capacity Development for Economic Diplomacy and Business - Government Policy Dialogue" under UNDP's sponsorship. It was designed to provide a refresher course in international economics for Vietnamese officials who are responsible for international economic diplomacy. This course also served as a preparatory course for a follow-up executive program in London focusing more on emerging issues.

Attending to the course 23 Vietnamese officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Congress Office.

VEPR' experts providing the course included: Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang - delivering lectures on Macro and Micro Economics, Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh - for lectures on Open Macro Economics and International Finance, Dr. Tu Thuy Anh - for lectures on International Trade Theories and Policies.

Besides theoretical classes, there were also four seminars given by leading economic experts in Vietnam. They were Mrs. Victoria Kwakwa - World Bank Director in Vietnam, Mr. Claudio Dordi - Team Leader of EU-MUTRAP (Multilateral Trade Assistance Project) in Vietnam, Mr. Truong Dinh Tuyen - former Minister of Ministry of Commerce and Mr. Vo Tri Thanh - Vice Director of the Centre Institute for Economic Management. Those guest speakers had provided participants with practical and useful knowledge on the challenges of Vietnam's economic development, some implications and suggestions for Vietnam to deal with anti-dumping lawsuits; and lessons from Vietnam's negotiation process to join WTO.
