VNU in the group 401-600 by Impact Rankings of Times Higher Education

At 19:00 (Vietnam time) on April 21, 2021, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the results of THE Impact Rankings. This is a university ranking published in 2019 by Times Higher Education with ranking criteria based on the implementation of 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations.


VNU University of Economics and Business entered this ranking for the first time in 2021 and was highly appreciated for its development activities, especially the provision of quality education services and its contribution to the implementation of national tasks related to sustainable development goals. The university is ranked in the 401 – 600 group globally and the top educational institution in Vietnam.

THE Impact Rankings publishes its first ranking results in 2019, aiming to measure the success of higher education institutions in the implementation of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, calling for global action in building a peaceful, fair and prosperous society. In other words, this Ranking measures the impacts and contribution of educational institutions to social development, human development, and environmental protection. 

In the 2021, out of 1115 higher education institutions being ranked by THE, Vietnam National University, Hanoi participated in 7 SDGs (including: Cooperation to realize the goals of development, good health and life, gender equality, quality education, sustainable economic growth, reducing inequality, peace, justice and strong Institutions), among which 4 SDGs were highly valued:

  • SDG 4. Quality Education: VNU ranked at position 92/966. This is the highest ranked criteria, in which VNU reached the top group of 100 globally.
  • SDG 5: Gender Equality: VNU ranked in the group 101-200/776.
  • SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth: VNU ranked in the group of 201-300/685.
  • SDG 17: Partnership for the goals: VNU ranked in the group of 401-600/1154.

In addition, VNU is ranked in other SDGs such as SDG 3 (Health and happy life) at 601-800, SDG 10 (Reducing inequality) at 301-400, SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong Institutions) in the 301-400 group.

In 2021, there were 4 Vietnamese educational institutions in this ranking with Vietnam National University, Hanoi in the group 401 -600, Ton Duc Thang University (401-600), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (601-800), and Phenikaa University (801-1000).
