VEPR Representatives attended the Forum of ASEAN University Think-Tank Network

From September 18th to September 21st, 2019, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh - Director of the Vietnam Institute for Economic and Policy Research (VEPR), VNU University of Economics and Business attended the Forum of ASEAN-China University (Country and Regional Studies) Think-Tank Network in Nanning, Guangxi, China


The forum was organized by the ASEAN Research Institute - Guangxi University. It is part of the China-ASEAN University Think-Tank Network activities which was established at Guangxi University on October 31st, 2016.

The program brought together the leading Think-Tanks in Southeast Asia to discuss the topic "Joining hands to build the ASEAN-China Community for a mutual future". Among all the attendees, VEPR is the only representative from Vietnam invited to participate in the program. The forum took place in 4 days corresponding to 4 working sessions. In the first session, experts exchanged views on: "Collaboration on poverty reduction research through Education in Lan Thuong region - Mekong".

Researchers from universities, research institutes and central agencies as well as managers of China have sat at the round table to discuss, listen to the stories of changing and learned lessons from the openness, reform and poverty reduction process of China. Aspects discussed include: Reform-promoting factors, Poverty reduction experience, International cooperation, The role of education in poverty reduction, etc.

 

Overlook of the forum

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh made a speech from the perspective of Vietnam in the second session of the forum on the topic: "Lan Thuong - Mekong Cooperation and ASEAN - China Relationship". The third session continued with the discussion on "Building a New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC)". And in the last session, all attendees discussed the issue of "Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP - EAGA) and cooperation on belt and road".
