MOU signing between UEB, ICAEW and KPMG Vietnam

On 17th September 2018, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the institute of chartered accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) and KPMG Vietnam at the KPMG’s headquarters.


Attending the signing ceremony, there were Ms. Wai San Siew - Regional Head of ICAEW Education, South East Asia; Ms. Do Thi Thu Ha - Deputy General Director of KPMG; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Van Luyen - Deputy Director of Banking Academy. From UEB, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Trung Thanh - Head of Research and Partnership Development; Dr. Tran The Nu - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing with the lecturers of the Faculty.

 

According to the agreement signed among the parties, UEB, ICAEW and KPMG will annually select about 20 outstanding students who have just finished their second year of Accounting - Auditing. The three sides pledge to sponsor a group of students to choose to study and take a subject on International Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) of ICAEW; ICAEW and KPMG will jointly develop professional skills training programs for students. At the end of the third year at the university, students who pass at least one of the six ICAEW CFAB courses will have a chance to experience summer internship at KPMG. In the fourth year, the best students will have the opportunity to become full-time KPMG employees after graduation.

The program will be implemented by the parties within three years, starting from 2018. Accordingly, approximately 80 students of Accounting and Auditing will be selected nationwide each year.

As a result, trilateral cooperation between ICAEW, KPMG and two universities today will open up opportunities for ICAEW students to dream of experiencing and developing their career in a leading professional workplace of the world in the field of accounting - auditing”.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Do Thi Thu Ha - KPMG Deputy General Director, said: "As one of the largest professional service providers in Vietnam with a large number of international and domestic clients so searching strategy, training talent to serve customers are always best placed on KPMG. We value the training of ICAEW, the world's leading professional organization in accounting, finance and business. The Chartered Accountant's ICAEW network which is constantly linked through a variety of industry updates, market updates, … is also a strong point for ICAEW certification holders. In addition, VNU University of Economics and Business and Banking Academy is the cradle of training auditing and accounting students in Vietnam. I believe that this partnership will provide KPMG with high quality human resources to accelerate our business operations in Vietnam".

In particular, the cooperation between University of Economics and Business, ICAEW and KPMG will help talented students in accounting and auditing of school having the opportunity to be trained to promote their highest ability. I am confident that this trilateral partnership will effectively contribute to the international accounting and auditing workforce for Vietnam's increasingly open financial market".

With the deep integration of the economy, Vietnam's accounting and auditing services market is increasingly opening up in line with international commitments. Considered as a field with great potential for development, making an important contribution to the growth of the economy but the market of accounting and auditing services of Vietnam is facing the challenge of high-quality human resources. According to statistics so far, the number of Accountants, Auditors with international certificates only stopped at the number of 1,000 people. In that context, the training model between the school and international professional organizations and enterprises is considered as the optimal solution to realize the goal of training high quality human resources to meet the new requirements of the open market. The cooperation program between ICAEW, KPMG and universities of Accounting - Auditing is expected to create a high level of accountants and auditors, contributing to improving the competitiveness of the market.
