UEB’s VEPR recognized as VNU’s key research center

On 9th July 2018, Vietnam Institute for Economic and Policy Research (VEPR) of VNU University of Economics and Business celebrated its 10th anniversary and received the decision on recognizing VEPR as VNU’s key research center.


Attending the ceremony, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - Vice President of VNU; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Truc Le - Rector of UEB - VNU, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh - Director of VEPR and its staffs. The ceremony also attracted domestic and international scholars and economists.

 

Giving a speech at the ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son highly appreciated the role of the Institute in economic policy researching and forecasting, and praised the achievements of the Institute in recent years. It is the constant effort of all leaders and staffs of the Institute. He hopes that after receiving the recognition as a key research center, the Institute continues to promote its strengths, and to achieve great success.

VEPR celebrated its 10 years of establishment with a lot of changes. The institute hosted and published various wide-known projects, including "Vietnam Annual Economic Report" from 2009 to 2018, quarterly-published "Vietnam Quarterly Report on the Economy of Vietnam", "Policy Discussion" every 6 months. In addition, VEPR Newsletter, issued every two months since the establishment of the Institute, with information on work taken by the Institute and the economic situation in Vietnam has attracted 21,000 readers. 

In addition to the core strengths of the Macroeconomic Research Group, VEPR has formed three special research programs, the 2012 Chinese Economic Studies (VCES), the Vietnam-Japan Productivity Promotion (VJPP) in early 2016 and the Broaden Economics Research Programme in early 2017. From these research groups, many thematic studies are published, creating many social influence.

Furthermore, VEPR regularly organizes VEPR Summer School "Foundations of the Market Economy" from 2011 to 2017 for students and young journalists, VJPP Course on "The foundation of the success of Japanese society" and "Advanced Summer Course on Development Issues". These courses have formed a network of independent thinkers who are passionate about knowledge of philosophy, economics as well as development issues.

Since 2014, VEPR has been involved in the establishment of the Alliance of Agriculture and has been holding coordinating positions since 2015. Since 2017, VEPR has been involved in the Budget Transparency, Accountability and Participation (BTAP), and has been active in founding the Alliance for Fair Taxation. All the Alliances are the initiative of Oxfam Vietnam.
