A seminar organized to gather ideas for the training project based on the CDIO approach

On 3rd July 2009, the University of Economics and Business - VNU organized a seminar presided by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Xuan Nha, in order to solicit ideas for the training project based on the CDIO approach.

Guest attending the seminar was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Duc Ngoc - Director of Center for Accreditation Measurement and Evaluation for Educational Quality (CAMEEQ) - Vietnam Private Universities Association (VIPUA). Attendees from the UEB were the Board of Directors, leaders and lecturers from the Faculty of International Business and Economics, the Faculty of Finance - Banking, the Training Department and the Educational Testing and Quality Assurance Department.

The CDIO is an educational initiative in which all phases have to be implemented according to the consecutive and associative standard process. This process is recognized worldwide and it includes 4 phases: “Conceiving - Designing - Implementing - Operating”. The nature of building the program according to the CDIO approach is the expansion of the development approach, in which universities create the potentials and equip the students with the “soft” and “hard” skills.

After listening to the project entitled “Building a training process according to the CDIO approach for Economics, Business Administration and pilot programs for the improvement of the I International Economics Honor Program” presented by Dr. Vu Anh Dung - Deputy Head of The Faculty of International Business and Economics in his speech entitled “Developing a program according to the CDIO approach” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Duc Ngoc, the delegates excitedly discussed and contributed very useful ideas to the project. The training project according to the CDIO approach was highly appreciated for its breakthrough in renovating the teaching and studying at universities. It results in products which meet the requirements of employers, which narrow the gap between training and universities’ deployment of human recourses. Besides, the training based on the CDIO approach helps trainees considerably develop their “soft” and “hard” skills to accordingly adapt to the ever-changing business environments.

At the end of the seminar, the delegates determined how to implement the project and at the outset experiment it for the International Economics Honor Program, and then expand it to other programs in order to build and develop the UEB to become a university of international standard.
